What is Speech Therapy?

Speech therapy is a paramedical profession that focuses on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, voice, reading, writing and arithmetic disorders. This applies to both children and adults.

Speech therapists use techniques and methods based on scientific findings from linguistics, psychology, education and medicine. Moreover, we work closely with other disciplines such as teachers, CLB, doctors and psychologists. This cooperation is important for an effective treatment.

Starting Speech Therapy

  • A first appointment is scheduled.
  • During the intake session, the difficulties are discussed and the practical side of the treatment period is explained.
  • At start-up of the treatment period, the required documents for the mutual health insurance are prepared.
  • The duration of a session is 30 or 60 minutes.
  • The final 5 minutes of each session is used to discuss progress and points of attention
  • Cancelling an oppointment needs to be done 24 hours upfront (during school holidays, 48 hours). Sessions that have been canceled late are always charged and are not reimbursed by the health insurance fund.

Additional insurance

For most disorders, reimbursement is possible via the compulsory insurance (see rates and reimbursement). In some cases we have to rely on the supplementary insurance. These reimbursement rates are paid separately by each health insurance fund and can therefore be very different from mutual insurance to mutual insurance. If you have any questions about supplementary insurance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
